Factory performance rarely improves through one isolated initiative. Stable results come from a small number of connected management disciplines.
1. Make flow visible
Map the real movement of materials and information. Observe queues, waiting, rework and handoffs rather than relying only on departmental reports.
2. Validate standards and capacity
Planning depends on realistic routings, cycle times, allowances and resource availability. Compare system assumptions with observed work before changing staffing or investment plans.
3. Focus on the constraint
Identify the process, resource or policy that limits throughput. Protect it from avoidable interruptions and avoid local optimisation that increases work in progress without improving delivery.
4. Build accountable daily management
Use a limited set of operational KPIs, short review cycles, clear owners and visible escalation. Meetings should generate decisions and verified actions.
5. Implement in a controlled sequence
Prioritise actions by impact, effort, risk and dependency. Pilot changes, verify their effect and update the standard before scaling.
